Eponadelics is Here: Psychedelics, Horses, and the Story Behind the Story

What happens when grief plants a seed and you finally let it grow

When I left my full-time nurse practitioner position a little over a year ago, I had no idea I would end up weaving together two of the most transformative forces I know: psychedelic therapy and horses. But here we are. The launching of my new business, Eponadelics.  Eponadelics is a space for those ready to do deep, meaningful work with some unexpected guides and discoveries along the way.

My interest in psychedelic work is not new. Back in the late 1990s, before it was even a "thing," I was co-leading healing circles in the Bay Area. I witnessed firsthand the profound shifts participants experienced through this deep, expansive, consciousness-opening work. But it was still very underground; the risks were high, and eventually I closed that chapter and continued on a more conventional path in integrative and regenerative medicine and in a private counseling practice. Later, I worked as a clinical specialist for several medical device companies, training surgeons and practitioners throughout the US and across Asia, the Middle East, and beyond.

It was adventurous, exciting, and sometimes grueling. I loved it. It was never boring. But the constant travel wore on my body, and my soul quietly ached for something more, something aligned with purpose and meaning, something that made a lasting difference in people's lives.  In addition to my background in nursing, I have a master’s in counseling psychology.  I wondered if there was a way I could use that background to fulfill my life’s purpose. That’s when the calling to return to psychedelic facilitation began to emerge as a whisper. A gentle nudge. And I began investigating the resurrection of this work. The whisper grew louder and more insistent until I understood why.

The seed had been planted in late 2022, when my partner Todd entered hospice. We had watched a documentary a few years earlier about people facing the end of life who used psilocybin or MDMA to move through that threshold with acceptance and peace. We felt it would be helpful for Todd to have this experience, and after much searching, finally found a shaman who came to our home to facilitate a psilocybin ceremony. This allowed Todd and me to participate in the journey together.  It was profound and healing for both of us. For Todd, it helped him face the inevitable with courage and grace. He passed away peacefully six days later.

Grief has a way of clarifying what’s important. While I wasn't ready to leap just yet, the seed planted a few years ago remained alive and vibrant. Until last year, when I knew it was time to finally make the move.

In my next newsletter, I'll share how the business came together, and how horses found their way into my heart and into this work. And how Eponadelics was birthed.

Until next time.

With love and magic,

Rachelle
